The spoke-type load cell operates based on the resistance strain gauge principle. When an external force is applied to the sensor, the elastic body (elastic element, sensitive beam) deforms, causing the strain gauge (conversion element) attached to its surface to also deform. This deformation of the strain gauge causes its resistance to change (increase or decrease). This change in resistance is then converted into an electrical signal by the corresponding measurement circuit, completing the process of converting the external force into an electrical signal. After amplification and filtering, the electrical signal ensures accuracy and stability. Finally, it is processed and displayed by a data acquisition system to obtain the object's weight information.
Installation Steps of Spoke Type Weighing Sensor
Securing the Sensor
Use high-strength screws to secure the sensor to the base, ensuring the fixed end is secure and that there is no unbalanced load on the load-bearing end.
Leveling: When installing a single sensor, use a spirit level to calibrate the base. When connecting multiple sensors in parallel, ensure all bases are on the same level to avoid uneven load.
Connecting Cables
Use a four-core shielded cable:
Red (Ex+) connects to the positive power supply, black (Ex-) connects to the negative power supply (excitation voltage 5-10VDC).
Green (S+) connects to the positive signal, white (S-) connects to the negative signal.
Ground the shield (thick black wire) at one end (usually at the instrument end). Avoid running it parallel to the power line, maintaining a distance of 50cm or more, or use metal pipe to reduce interference.
Installing the Loading Platform
Mount the loading platform (such as a hopper or tank) at the end of the sensor cantilever and secure it with bolts, ensuring the load direction aligns with the sensor's design (vertical compression). Avoid lateral force: Spoke-type sensors have large lateral stiffness, but they still need to be protected against lateral impact or collision. A limiting device (such as an anti-lateral displacement bolt) can be installed.
Precautions
Overload Protection
Do not exceed 150% of the rated load, as this may cause permanent damage.
Install mechanical stops to prevent overloading and lateral impact.
Corrosion and Moisture Protection
Apply petroleum jelly to protect the sensor's exterior surface. Avoid direct sunlight and sudden temperature fluctuations.
